War Creek to Stehekin Trail (USFS #408)

Access: From Twisp drive west on Okanogan County Road 9114. In about 10 miles the county road becomes Forest Service Road 44 (FS Road 43 takes off to the left at that point). Continue on FS Road 44 to FS Road 4430 and turn left. Turn left on FS Road 4430-100 and travel about 1.5 miles to the War Creek Trailhead.

Route Description: A historic route that follows War Creek to a high pass that leads in to the North Cascades Recreation area. A park service permit is required to camp in the recreation area. The trail travels through a forested area, which becomes thinner as you travel up the trail. The last 0.5 mile is steep. South Fork War Creek Trail 409, which is not maintained, branches left at 2 miles.

Highlights: The trail has a wonderful view of the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Mountain range from the pass.

Restrictions: No motorized or mechanized vehicles. Wilderness use restrictions apply.

Trailhead Facilities: Northwest Forest Pass required. Stock ramp, hitch rail and pit toilet.
